Muistatko enää Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed-elokuvaa? Se oli vuonna 2008 tehty paljastusdokumentti akateemisen maailman pimeästä puoleesta. Maailmaan jossa darwinismin peruspilaria joko palvotaan, tai itketään ja palvotaan. Soraääniä päästävät tutkijat komennetaan Siperiaan. Avointa keskustelua evoluutio-opista ja älykkään suunnittelun teoriasta ei sallita. Ja Hitlerin hirmuteot johtuivat Darwinin teoriasta. Hauskaa katseltavaa koko perheelle. Todennäköisesti olet yksi niistä monista suomalaisista, jotka eivät koskaan katsoneet kyseistä pätkää.

 Expelled-elokuvaa kirjoittanut kristitty Kevin Miller on joutunut pieneen pulaan. Yllättäen oppikiista on pakottanut miehen pihalle eräästä laitoksesta. Oppikiista ei liity evoluutioteoriaan tai älykkääseen suunnitelmaan. Kanadalainen Trinity Western University ottaa jäseniä, joiden täytyy olla yhtä mieltä laitoksen uskonnollisen sanoman kanssa. Yliopiston (jos sitä siksi voi kutsua) uskonnollinen oppi sisältää käsitteen helvetistä, joka on oikea paikka jonne syntiset oikeasti joutuvat palamaan. Ikuisesti! Miller ei ole aivan samaa mieltä kuolemajälkeisestä elämästä, joten häntä on kielletty opettamasta TWU:ssa. Elokuvakurssia vetämään kutsuttu Miller saikin huomata, että edessä oli expellaus. Kuukausien valmistautuminen kurssiin oli turhaa. Helvetti on ollut lähellä hänen sydäntään, sillä Miller on tehnyt Hellbound?-dokumenttielokuvan.

Expelled: Professori Hedin pulassa!

Bwana joen kynästä -blogissa muistutetaan Intelligent Desing-teoriaan osoitetusta sorrosta. Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed -elokuvasta tutut tarinat IDeistejä vastaan tehdyistä alistuskampanjoista jäivät ehkä hieman ohuiksi, mutta nyt on tarjolla tuoretta kamaa.

Ateistiksi tunnustautuva Coyne väittää, että Ball State Universityn fysiikan ja tähtitieteen professori Eric Hedin suosii opetuksessaan älykkään suunnittelun (ID) ideaa ja kuvailee kristinuskoa hyvin myönteisesti. Coyne vaatii, että yliopiston johdon pitäisi tarkkailla professori Hedinin opetusta tarkemmin.

Coyne valitti kurssista, joka ei edes käsittele luonnontieteitä. Omassa opetuksessaan Coyne tuo PZ Myersin ja Richard Dawkinsin (silloin kun tämä vielä opetti) tavoin ateismin esille, joten ehdotus haiskahtaa tekopyhyydeltä ja silkalta kiusanteolta.

Darvinistit eivät suvaitse kilpailevat maailmankatsomuksia. 

Joten on oikein tapahtunut? Miten professori Eric Hedin on joutunut kärsimään? No eipä mitenkään. Vielä.

Jerry Coyne on nostamassa hälyä Hedinin kahdesta valinnaisesta kurssista, joissa puhutaan tieteestä ja hieman teologiasta. Ja ID-hypoteesista. Coynen sivuilla on näytteitä kurssien aiheista. Ihmeet ja henkisyys, Michael Behen palautumaton monimutkaisuus sekä Jumala voivat olla outoja aiheita tähtitieteen professorilta. Coyne argumentoi, että osavaltion rahoittamassa yliopistossa ei saisi sekoittaa uskontoa tuolla tavalla luonnontieteen kursseilla. Jotkut opiskelijoista ovat ihmetelleen miksi Hedin jauhaa uskonnosta, toiset ovat tykänneet erilaisesta menosta. Kurssien tarkoituksena on perehtyä uskonnon tie tieteen yhteiseloon.

This has to stop, for Hedin’s course, and the University’s defense of it, violate the separation of church and state mandated by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (“freedom of religion”) and which has been so interpreted by the courts. It’s religion taught as science in a public university, and it’s not only wrong but illegal.  I have tried approaching the University administration, and have been rebuffed.

This will now go to the lawyers.

Yliopisto on ilmoittanut perehtyvänsä valituksiin. 

Pharyngula -blogin PZ Myers onkin toista mieltä Coynen kanssa. Hän on puolustamassa Hedinin oikeutta opettaa yliopistossa.

No, sorry, not right — academic freedom is the issue here, and professors have to have the right to teach unpopular, controversial issues, even from an ignorant perspective. The first amendment does not apply; this is not a course students are required to take, and it’s at a university, which students are not required to attend. It’s completely different from a public primary or secondary school. A bad course is an ethical problem, not a legal one. It’s also an issue that the university has to handle internally.

Myers myös spekuloi, että Ball State University on ollut pitempään tietoinen Hedinin teologisesta mausteesta. Professorin annetaan järjestää vain alemman tason kursseja.

This kind of thing happens. I’ve known of a couple of cases where faculty go ’round the bend and start flaking out in the classroom, and there’s not much you can do, except what Ball State seems to be doing. Put the person into low level service courses where they have to teach students something basic, like algebra, where their weird views can’t do much harm. Or give them some non-majors elective where they aren’t going to have much influence. I notice in Hedin’s courses that he’s only teaching low level courses and honors/interdisciplinary courses. It looks like maybe the department is doing their best to isolate a problem.

Myös Sandwalk -blogin Larry Moran puolustaa professori Hedinin oikeutta opettaa mitä haluaa.

I defend the right of a tenured professor to teach whatever he/she believes to be true no matter how stupid it seems to the rest of us.¹ I'm troubled by the fact that some people are calling for the instructor's dismissal and writing letters to the chair of his department. We really don't want to go down that path, do we? Academic freedom is important and it's especially important to defend it when a professor is pushing a view that we disagree with. 

Akateeminen vapaus suojelee myös huonoa opetusta. Lakimiehet päättämässä mitä yliopistoissa saa opettaa? Se ei ole missään mielessä hyvä skenaario. Akateemisen maailman tehtävänä on selvittää onko opetus vanhanaikaista, ristiriidassa tutkimustiedon kanssa, vai jotain pahempaa.

Koko kiistan olennainen kohta onkin selvittää onko Yhdysvalloissa laitonta sekoittaa uskontoa valtion rahoittaman yliopiston luonnontieteen kursseilla. Sekä tietysti selvittää onko sellaista edes tapahtunut Ball State Universityssä. Opiskelijoiden ei ole pakko osallistua Hedinin kursseille. Mutta ne ovat valtion rahoilla järjestettyjä, mutta mukana on myös lukukausimaksut. Ehkä tästä tulee joku ennakkotapaus.

Coyne, Myers ja Moran eivät ole vaatimassa Hedinin eroa. Toistaiseksi hänelle ei ole koitunut ongelmia. Tästä voi kuitenkin kehittyä (hehehehe) se IDeistien kauan kaipaama PR-tempaus, jossa ID joutuu evo-inkvisition kidutettavaksi.

California Science Center sopi Illustra Median uusimman pro-ID Darwin's Dilemma: The Mystery of the Cambrian Explosion dokumentin pyörittämisestä. Tapahtuman nimeksi tuli The Darwin Debates: A Forum for Dialogue. American Freedom Alliance sopi keikasta tiedekeskuksen kanssa. Discovery Instituten Evolution News & Views julkaisi tiedotteen tapahtumasta ja kutsui ihmisiä paikalle. Leffa alkaisi pyörimään 25 päivä lokakuuta.

Mutta mitä sekulaarista ihmettä?

ID-tapahtuma peruttiin. Darwinistien salaliitto iski jälleen. Akateeminen vapaus sai taas niskalaukauksen. DiscoInstituten Robert Crowther sanoo toiveikkaana:

I'd wager good money that the American Freedom Alliance doesn't have time to return all the calls from attorneys wanting to take this case.

Discovery Institute mainitsi lehdistötiedotteessa tiedekeskuksen ilman heidän lupaa. California Science Centerin johtaja onkin ilmoittanut, että tapahtuma peruttiin sopimukseen liittyvän asian takia. Eikä heidän tarvitse kommentoida sopimusasioida julkisesti.

Ben Steinin ahdinko

Bwana joella vierähtää kyynel Ben Steinin puolesta. Expelled!-elokuvan tähtenä ollut asiantuntija sai lähtöpassit New York Times-lehden kolumnistin hommista. Stein tietää miksi tapahtumat saivat näin ilkeän käänteen. Ateistit eivät tykänneet hänen esittämästä evoluutiokritiikistä. Viimeinen niitti oli Messias Obaman kritisoiminen.

Siksi Times hääti Steinin pois. Lehdistönvapaus otti jälleen iskun päin kasvoja.

Tai sitten Steinin versio tapahtumista jättää jotain olennaista pois. Lyhyt selitys: Ben Stein ei osannut noudattaa New York Times-lehden eettisiä sääntöjä. Tietenkin hän ei koe tehneensä mitään väärää. Joshua Rosenau selittää miksi Stein on väärässä. Steinin olisi kannattanut lukea työpaikan säännöt, vaikka olikin freelance kolumnisti. Säännöissä kielletään sijoitusneuvojen antaminen.

Religulous vs Expelled!

Bill Maher (näyte Real Time-ohjelmasta) on kierrellyt latenight-ohjelmissa. Hän on mainostanut uutta huumoridokkariaan Religulous. Kyseisessä teoksessa Maher on kuskattu haastattelemaan melkein kaikkien uskontojen äärilaitoja. Kristilliset tulkinnat, juutalaisten uskonto, islamia, mormoneja, skientologiaa, kaikkea tuodaan ruutuun.

Sekä tietenkin kreationismia. Kameraryhmä soluttautui AiG-järjestön kreationisminäyttelyyn. Maherin mukaan samanlaista soluttautumista täytyi suorittaa melkein kaikissa haastatteluissa. He tekivät sellaisen katalan tempun, että valehtelivat kuvaamansa elokuvan nimen, harhauttaakseen kohteitaan. Harva haluaa tietoisesti joutua öykkäröivän koomiikon ikeen alle. Anyways, he rikkoivat laitoksen turvajärjestelyjä saadakseen Maherin istumaan samaan huoneeseen Ken Hamin kanssa. Sitten tapahtui haastaattelu. AiG:n mukaan Ken piti loistavasti pintansa.

In the clip from the Creation Museum, Ken shows the photographers some of the exhibits and speaks of the ministry’s openness about its basis on the Word of God. This is presented straightforwardly, as Maher assumes he needs no help in portraying creationists as irrational. A clip from actor Kirk Cameron is taken out of context and inserted here, however, to infer Christians don’t use their intellect.

As Maher interviews Ken in his office later, Ken is able to answer Maher’s questions well and rationally—even on the nature of God. Ken turns the tables on Maher by asking him a question he can’t answer: “Bill, are you God?” Maher is left with no answer other than “no” and then silence. It is telling that he interviewed no one else with the theological grounding to defend the Christian faith.

Kylläpäs Ham pisti pahan kysymyksen Maherille. Oikea vastaushan olisi ollut "kyllä, minä olen Jumala." Jos tuo oli näyte Ken Hamin nokkeluudesta, niin loput haastattelusta on varmasti hauskaa katseltavaa.

Elokuvamaailmassa menestys mitataan vain yhdellä tavalla: raha. Ensimmäinen viikonloppu määrittelee onko elokuva hyvä vai huono.

Expelled! keräsi 2,97 miljoonaa dollaria, suurella määrällä valkokankaita (1052).

Religulous keräsi 3,4 miljoonaa dollaria, vain 502 valkokankaan avulla.

Eli Religulous on tuplasti parempi leffa. Jos ID-väki mainostaa Expelled!-elokuvaa vuoden 2008 ykkös-dokkarina, ja sen näki yli miljoona ihmistä, varmasti Religulous yltää vielä vaikuttavimpiin lukuihin tulevina viikkoina.

ID liittyy Jumalaan

Tällä kertaa näin on mennyt väittämään Expelled!-elokuvan tekijät:

Your group will see Ben Stein confront the world's top scientists, educators and philosophers, regarding the persecution of fellow professionals who believe there is evidence to indicate intelligent design (God) in nature. They'll be shocked when they watch Ben uncover the stronghold an elite few with a particular worldview (Atheism) have over mainstream academia... a stronghold that is costing dissenters their jobs, funding, tenure and professional reputations. They'll learn how costly questioning Darwinian Evolution has been for many, the extremes to which some will go to silence those voices and the impact this suppression has on us all!

Expelled! saaga saa uuden käänteen

...mutta ketään ei enää kiinnosta. UncommonDescentissä DaveScot ilmoittaa, että tuomari on rytännyt Yoko Onon tekemän kanteen.

Yoko Ono’s copyright infringement suit against the makers of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed for using 15 seconds of the Lennon song Imagine was thrown out of court. Of course we all knew it was no more than a nuisance suit brought because Ono didn’t approve of the film’s negative view of the philosophy expressed in Imagine.

Osittainen Imagine-biisin käyttö elokuvassa ei ole tuomarin mielestä kohtuutonta. Tämä ei kuitenkaan tarkoita, että Yokon & kumppaneiden nostama syyte olisi hylätty, kuten Dave kirjoittaa. Innokas kommentoija on kerinnyt huomauttamaan, että syyte on vielä kehissä, mutta Expelled!-elokuvan esittämistä haitannut oikeudenmääräys ei ole enää voimassa.

DVD-versio ilmestynee aivan pian, jotta tekijät voivat ottaa kaiken irti niiden myymisestä.

Vastausta odotellessa

Expelled! on saanut aikaan melua mediassa, eikä vähiten sen sisältämän sanoman takia. Eräs tulkinta tästä sanomasta on se, että Expelled!-elokuvan mukaan Hitler tarvitsi Darwinia päätyäkseen holokaustin tekemiseen. Ajatus ei ole uusi, mutta ekaa kertaa IDeistien omassa populaaridokumentissa. Noh, nyt ajatusta vastustetaan tietyltä taholta:

"Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed elokuva esittää Holokaustin ja sen kuvat väärässä valossa, osana sen poliittista yritystä viedä luottamus tieteelliseltä yhteisöltä, joka hylkää ns. älykkään suunnittelun teorian.

Hitler ei tarvinnut Darwinia laatiakseen karmaisevan suunnitelman tuhota juutalaiset, eikä Darwin ja evoluutioteoria kykene selittämään Hitlerin kansanmurhaan ylttänyttä hulluutta.

Holokaustin käyttäminen evoluutioteoriaa edistävien tahraamiseen on törkeää ja trivialisoi niitä monimutkaisia tekijöitä jotka johtivat Euroopan juutalaisten kansanmurhaan."

Tuollaisen lausunnon antoi Anti-Defamation League, joka on merkittävä antisemitismiä vastaan taisteleva järjestö. Kun natsirikollisia jahtaava, holokaustin muistoa vaaliva ja juutalaisten oikeuksia ajava järjestö esittää paheksuntansa Expelled!-elokuvasta ei sitä voi sivuuttaa materialististen darwinistien propagandana.

Toistaiseksi Discovery Institute tai kukaan Expelled!-elokuvan tekijöistä ei ole kommentoinut tätä lausuntoa. Uncommon Descentissä sentään pohditaan onko oikein sanoa Darwinilla ja Hitlerillä olleen yhteyksiä

Ben Steinin haastattelu

Expelled!-elokuvan stara Ben Stein vieraili Late Show with Craig Ferguson-ohjelmassa. Kansa sai kuulla järkyttävää puhetta:

"Darwinism doesn't explain how the planets stay in their orbits."

"His followers claim it explains everything including astronomy."

"Don't fire people because they say the planets do stay in their orbits because of something other than Darwinism."

Steinillä on aavistuksen hukassa se mitä evoluutioteoria (Darwinismi) oikein sisältää. Ehkä hänen muistikorttinsa olivat menneet sekaisin ennen nauhoitusta. Ymmärrän kyllä, että elämän synty sekoitetaan elämän kehitykseen, mutta planeettojen kiertoradat? GTFO! Nyt Stein näyttäisi kritisoivan koko "ateistista" tiedettä. Jos biologian yhdistävä teoria ja kosmologia nivotaan samaan kasaan, niin aika vähän jää "evoluutiokritiikin" ulkopuolelle.

Thunderf00t on koonnut parhaat palat ja tehnyt ruumiinavauksen Steinin puheista. Pahus. Stein ei sekoittanut muistikorttejaan ennen Late Show with Craig Ferguson-ohjelmaa. Hän oikeasti ajattelee, että Darwin liittyy jotenkin painovoimaan.

Imagine if there were no copyright

Yoko Ono on haastanut Expelled!-elokuvan tekijät. Syynä John Lennonin säveltämä Imagine-biisi, jota käytetään ilman lupaa. Tämä tuo lisää julkisuutta leffalle, mutta kaikki julkisuus on hyvää julkisuutta. Ei kannata miettiä vaikuttaisiko tämä asia mitenkään negatiivisesti tekijöiden maineeseen, siis siihen mitä siitä on jäljellä. Vaikeuksissa ovat Premise Media Corporation, C&S Production, LP ja Rocky Mountain Pictures. Voi olla että asia sovitaan rahallisesti ilman vierailua oikeussalissa.

Vielä on toivoa

Expelled!-elokuvan sanoma akateemisesta vapaudesta on hautautunut Darwin-Hitler propagandan alle. Vihjailut siitä, että Darwin keksi rasismin, antisemitismin, eugeniikan ja kansanmurhat ovat tietenkin [sensuroitu]un tyhmää läppää. Nyt olemme saaneet uskomattoman vahvaa todistusaineistoa ja logiikkaa noiden vihjailujen kumoamiseksi.

Aivan yllättäen tämä argumentaatio esitetään Uncommon Descentissä. Vielä järkyttävämpää on se, että sen esittää itse DaveScot. Siksi haluan tallentaa nämä legendaariset tekstit myös jälkipolville. UD:llä kun on perinteitä jotka tekevät historian tallentamisen vaikeaksi.

Ensin vakiokommentoija kirjoittaa:

Johon DaveScot jyrähtää näin:

Ridiculous. Darwin didn’t discover what could be accomplished through artificial selection. That’s been common knowledge for thousands of years. Darwin first asserted that selection takes place in nature (natural selection) and works the same way as does in artificial breeding of animals. He then extrapolated selection as something that explained not just variation between individuals of the same species but also explained the origin of new species. Attributing more than that to Darwin is either mistaken, uninformed, or dishonest.

Tämä on aiheuttanut spekulaatioita siitä, että joku on haksoroinut Daven tilin UD:ssä. Myöhemmin Dave jatkaa erikoista käytöstään:

There is no possibility that even if Expelled did nothing but document the road to the holocaust it would be anywhere near comprehensive. In the other place where I mentioned Godwin’s Law one of the other participants wrote a 700 page book attempting to connect Darwin to Holocaust and it remains unconvincing to many. Moreover it doesn’t even bother to mention that the eugenics movement in Germany was preceded by the eugenics movement in the United States. That’s a pretty big omission given the subject and detracts considerably from the integrity of the rest of the tome.

Bringing the holocaust into Expelled was nothing but gratuitous. It has no bearing at all on academic persecution of those who believe the universe has purpose and design. It all but destroys that message. Comparing the wholesale slaughter of many millions of people to perhaps hundreds of people losing their jobs trivializes the former in a lame to attempt to elevate the latter. People find that disgusting and virtually every review not authored by ID sympathizers focuses on it. Some reviews start off good to glowing but in the end wind up with an overall rating of “disgusting” because of the holocaust connection. To add insult to injury Expelled, by omission, conflates Social Darwinism with Biological Darwinism. The general public doesn’t know the difference. All they hear is Darwinism.

Kun toinen kommentoija vetelee yhtäläisyysmerkkejä Darwinin ja käsityksiin eriarvoisten rotujen välille, on DaveScot taas kuin toisesta ulottuvuudesta:

You mean like the anti-miscegenation laws in the United States dating back to colonial times that prohibited the marriage of blacks and whites? Perhaps the colonists were prescient and anticipated Darwinian theory 200 years before Darwin was born.

Kaikki tämä on aiheuttanut pyörtymisiä ja panikointia After the Bar Closes-foorumilla. Maailmanlopulla ei voi olla selkeämpiä merkkejä, mutta jotain vielä mysteerisempää on tulossa. Kun kolmas kommentoija StehpenB on lainannut valikoivasti Charles Darwinin Descent of Man-kirjaa, niin DaveScot sivaltaa aivan kuin pahin nettievolutionisti:

Now let’s not leave off the rest of what Darwin wrote immediately following the passage you quoted. I wonder, did you leave it out because of being misinformed, ignorant, or dishonet? I’ll accept your pleading guilty to any one of those. I prefer to think you’re merely uninformed though.

Was it a mistake for EXPELLED to address the connection between Nazism and Darwin? If I had done the film, I probably would have used that time to outline more clearly what ID is as a scientific and intellectual project. But the movie we have is the one we have. And in my view the connection between Darwinism and Nazism is stark. I realize that scholarship differs here. But if EXPELLED was going to wade into these waters, I’d say they did as good a job as could be done in 8 minutes. It’s a moot point whether 8 minutes was enough.

Stuffing the positive evidence for ID into a 90-minute documentary is impractical too and the audience wouldn’t have understood much of it. I’ve been studying it for perhaps thousands of hours and I’m still learning more every day. That said, I’d have done a little more explantory work with the inner cell animation. People intuitively grasp the complexity of a machine and instinctively know that they don’t assemble themselves out of thin air, lightning bolts, and dirt. The problem here is it’s not in my nature to withhold criticism. 90% of Expelled is great. 10% of it is rubbish.

I’m not sure if positive evidence of ID was really necessary though. The theme is academic freedom of inquiry and the underhanded tactics being used to repress unpopular ideas. It’s a freedom of speech issue. If the shoe were on the other foot and creationists were the majority in academia like they are in the general public, and the creationists were the ones using the dirty tactics, I’d be out defending PZ Myers’ and Richard Dawkins’ right to a fair and open hearing to whoever chose to listen to them. Even though I vehemently disagree with them and consider them intellectual degenerates with IQs hardly greater than a turnip they still deserve the right to make their stupid case on a level playing field.

Expelled! ja kriittinen eka viikonloppu

PandasThumbissa kommentoidaan Expelled!-elokuvan ensimmäistä viikonloppua elokuvateattereissa. Elokuva onnistui saamaan 1,2 miljoonan dollarin edestä rahaa ensi-iltana. Koko viikonlopun saldoksi tuli vähän alle 3,2 miljoonaa dollaria. Uncommon Descentissä tätä pidetän hyvänä tuloksena poliittiselle dokumentille. En tiedä kuinka Expelled! pärjäisi tiededokumenteille. Toteutunut kassakoneen käynti ei kuitenkaan vastaa sitä mitä tekijät ja PR-firma odottivat. Steve Schmidt oli sanonut eräälle ennakkoyleisölle, että he odottavat n. 12-15 miljoonan saamista ekana viikonloppuna.

Viihdealan analyytikko onnistui ennustamaan paremmin:

I'm sure that there's an audience out there somewhere for this type of doc, but there has been very little "intelligent design" involved in marketing the movie. With a Total Aware of only 19 percent and a First Choice score of just 2 percent, Expelled will manage only $1 million-$3 million this weekend, and it will have a difficult time holding on to those screens. It's doomed to $5 million domestic in its theatrical engagements (survival of the fittest?), although a fair number of DVD copies may be sold in evangelical bookstores in the future.

"Expelled" relies on the viewer's inability or unwillingness to wrestle with a complex corner of science, double-talking its way toward a "must be a miracle" solution to anything that science may not claim to have an answer for. Dismiss that for having no basis in fact, and you're infringing on "academic freedom."

That's not it at all, Ben. And really, when academia, the courts, the opinions of the educated have all weighed in on this subject on that "other side," who's the real monkey in this "debate"?

It's nuttiness right from the opening moments of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. Images of Nazi atrocities and the terrors of life behind the Berlin Wall are smugly deployed in an attempt to editorialize away basic scientific fact. In a saner universe, you could scoff at Stein and not give his nonsense another thought. But we don't live in that universe. We live here, where the religious insecurity of a scientifically illiterate populace is being twisted by people who certainly know better.

Typical of all propaganda, it also distorts language. The narration talks of "Darwinism" -- not evolution -- to make it sound like a dangerously secular cult; creationism is replaced by the more scientific-sounding "intelligent design." After an hour and a half, my faith in Darwin was shaken because, judging by what was on screen, we haven't evolved one blessed bit.

But surely the film's greatest offense is the utter shamelessness with which it exploits the Holocaust, veering far off topic for a side trip to Nazi killing centers at Hadamar and Dachau in an attempt to tar Darwin with the old "Evolution led directly to eugenics and the Final Solution" brush. The camera's slow tracking shots through the death camps are followed by a similar creepy crawl through Down House, where Darwin wrote On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. None of this has anything to do with the validity of evolutionary theory or intelligent design, and only serves to point up how any theory can be used to justify evil ends.

Expelled! ja FoxNews

Kun konservatiivisuudestaan tunnettu FoxNews pääsee arvostelemaan kreationistien tekemän Expelled!-elokuvan, niin tulos ei ole sellaista mistä Ben Stein tykkää. Elokuvakriitikon mielestä Steinin ura voi päättyä 18. päivä, kun Expelled! saa ensi-iltansa. Elokuvaa kuvaillaan huolimattomaksi, huonosti tehty ja hieman tylsäksi. Stein on kuulemma joko hullu tai pelkästään dollarin perässä ja sen takia valmis sanomaan mitä tahansa. Kreationismi ja ID ovat kriitikon mielestä huonoa tiedettä, jos sitäkään. Expelled-ennakot vain valikoidulle yleisölle

Valikoidulla tarkoitetaan tietenkin vain positiivisia arvosteluja antavia ihmisiä. Bisness on bisness, joten asiasta ei voi valittaa. Erikoiseksi asian kuitenkin tekee se miten Expelled-tekijä karsivat näitä ateistisia darwinisteja ennakkonäytöksistä. Sähköpostin välityksellä tuli ilmoitus siitä, että näytös on peruttu. Hieman skeptinen vastaanottaja selvitti, että näytöstä olikin vain siirretty tunti aikaisemmaksi. Pari ateistista darwinistia pääsi pujahtamaan (valehtelemaan/huijaamaan) ennakkonäytökseen, kunhan selvisivät Listasta, jossa oli hyväksyttyjen katsojien nimet. Heiltä kysyttiin mm. "mihin kirkkoon kuulut?"

Ehkä kyseessä on kuitenkin vain pikku fiba sähköpostien lähettämisessä tai tahaton sekaannus näytösajoista, joita hoitaa Motive Marketing. Tuskin Expelled-tekijät valehtelisivat ihmisille.

Expelled ja parempi syy holokaustille

Ben Stein ja pian ilmestyvä Expelled!-elokuva ovat kuuma puheenaihe netissä. Otsikoissa on enemmän se miten elokuvan tekijät kohtelevat yleisöään ja "darwinismin" syyttäminen holokaustista. Orac esittää tärkeän kysymyksen Ben Steinille:

Hitler ei sen pahemmin maininnut Darwinia tai evoluutioteoriaa puheissaan. Mein Kampf-kirjassa puhutaan enemmän siitä kuinka Luoja haluaa päästä eroon juutalaisista ja Hitler vain toimii älykkään suunnittelijan välikätenä (tästä ei sitten tykätä UD:ssä). Hitlerin puheissa ja rakkaissa päiväkirjoissa puhutaan kyllä tieteestä, mutta ei siitä mistä Ben Stein antaisia yleisön uskoa. Tässä yksi lainaus:
