Dembski kommentoi Dawkinsin pornohimoa

Tai jotain siiheen suuntaan. Uncommon Descentissä koetaan jälleen dramaattisia hetkiä. William Dembski lainailee uutista, jossa National Science Foundationin työntekijät ovat käyttäneet veronmaksajien rahoja nettipornoon. Työnteko on jäänyt vähemmälle ja rahaa on virrannut kymmeniä tuhansia dollareita. Eläkkeelle siirtynyt työntekijä on esittänyt humanitäärisen perustelun nettipornosta maksamiselle. Rahat ovat menneet ulkomaalaisille naisille, jotka ovat näin saaneet helpotusta köyhään elämään.

Uutisen innoittamana Uncommon Descentin kommenteissa käydään Dembskin ja Denyse O'Learyn välistä dialogia. Siinä Dembski esittää mielenkiintoisen skenaarion Richard Dawkinsin ajatusmaailmasta. Kopioin sen tänne, jos vaikka UD:tä alkaisi vaivaamaan satunnainen 404-virhe:

Denyse, You raise an interesting question for Richard Dawkins: If we had to choose one or the other, helping “poor overseas women” by (1) frequenting at taxpayer’s expense porn sites that pay these women a cut, the porn sites presumably constituting a purely secular activity or by (2) donating money to Catholic/Protestant charities that care for these women by providing shelter, food, and medical care, these charities constituting a religious activity, which should we prefer? I suspect RD, given his virulent hatred of religion, would opt for (1).

Mitä materialisten ateisti tekisi? Itse valitsisin vaihtoehdon numero 2. Se kun toisi tehokkaaman helpotuksen ja suoran avun naisille. Ensimmäinen vaihtoehto ylläpitäisi kurjuudessa olevien naisten asemaa. Uskonnollinen käännytystyö olisi pienempi paha. Joustavat periaatteet eivät murru.

En haluaisi ajatella, että Dembski on katkera Dawkinsin uusimman kirjan myyntiluvuista. New York Timesin best seller top 5 ja Sunday Timesin best seller-listan ensimmäisenä.

Seuraavana päivänä...

Tarina saa uuden yllättävän käänteen. Uncommon Descentin Barry Arrington ilmoittaa paheksuntansa materialistin moraalista. Se johtuu Dembskin kommenttia kommentoineen Severskyn kommentista. Barryn tulkinta siitä on seuraavanlainen:

But Seversky’s defense of porn and his attempt to smear millions both pale in comparison to this gob-smacking passage: “I cannot speak for Richard Dawkins but I know I would prefer to give to those that do not include proselytization [sic] as part of their program.”

There you have it. Our opponents count among their number a man who would rather see a young woman live in sexual slavery if that’s what it takes to insulate her from the influence of Christians who would try to help her. After I picked myself up from the floor, my first inclination was to delete the comment and ban this moral monster from the site. Then, I thought better of it. Instead, of deleting the comment, I will put it out there for everyone in the world to see. And I say this to our opponents who appear at this site: How do you answer Dembski’s question? Do you agree with Seversky? If not, will you remain silent or will you come on here and distance yourself from the views he expressed?

Kauhistus! ID:n vastustaja on valmis antamaan rahaa parittajille kuin kristilliselle hyväntekeväisyysjärjestölle! Kerrassaan töykeää, pöyristyttävää ja karmivaa. Onneksi Barry ei deletoinut kommenttia, vaan laittoi sen kaikkien kauhisteltavaksi.

Mutta koska kyseessä on IDeistin tekemä lainaus on syytä käydä tarkistamassa mitä Seversky on kirjoittanut. Olisiko Barrylta jäänyt huomaamatta jotain pientä?

Eli Seversky puhui hyväntekeväisyysjärjestöjen eroista. Eikä rahojen syytämisestä parittajille. Hän suosisi sekulaareja hyväntekeväisyysjärjestöjä uskonnollisten yli.

Materialistit pulassa UD:ssa

UncommonDescentissä ollaan jälleen tärkeiden asioiden äärellä. Barry Arrington on oppinut, että materialisteilla ei ole mitään vastalausetta seuraavanlaiseen johtopäätökseen:

Assume:
(1) That atheistic naturalism is true.
(2) One can’t infer an “ought” from an “is.”

If these two things are true, nothing exists from which we can infer any moral principle. If moral principles cannot be inferred, nothing is prohibited by any moral principle and therefore all things are permitted. This leads to the conclusion that the Holocaust was permitted.

Asiassa on vain se yksi pieni mutta. Uncommon Descent on tunnettu siitä, ettei siellä kannata väitellä mistään aiheesta, varsinkaan jos sattuu olemaan tuollainen materialisti/ateisti. Kommentteja ei varsinaisesti sensuroida. Ne jäävät moderointijonoon. Josta sattuu pääsemään läpi, jos todistaa olevansa kiltti poika tai tyttö. Jos kuitenkin on jatkuvasti erimieltä asioista moderaattoreiden kanssa, niin käy näin.
